Airedales, like all terriers are varmint hunters and, as such, hunt by sight, sound and smell. This is also important to remember for all training purposes. Airedales being an all around working dog will hunt upland game, water retrieve, fur bearing game and even do herding. They can do anything another dog can do. When asked by Johnny Carson many years ago on his show what would be the best dog to train if he could only have one kind of dog, the dog trainer replied, "Airedale."
